Valkommen! A Swedish greeting to all who enter this site. A warm welcome to all those of Scandinavian descent, and to anyone else who is interested in learning Viking history.
The name Vikings usually brings to mind ferocious men who pillaged and plundered; but, as you learn more about these Norsemen, you will find they were also skilled, intelligent people who contributed much to the civilization of the world.
Scandinavia consists of five countries — Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. This site will be a work in process. There is much to write about including stories of the struggles of those who came to the new world for a better life.
This is where you come in. You are invited to share the experiences of those who came before you. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to work on the genealogy of your family.
You might be surprised at the number of famous people who have their roots in Scandinavia. We’ll be discussing them, too.
This site is intended to be fun as well as educational. Scandinavians have a wonderful sense of humor and readily laugh at themselves, which is evident in all the Ole, Lena and Sven jokes. Then, of course, there are the Lutefisk stories. There’ll be a section for these jokes and you are encouraged to share your favorites.
Click on countries and read about each Scandinavian nation. Come back to this site from time to time, because new information will be continually added.
To the Scandinavians who live across the ocean who happen upon this site, you are especially welcome and are encouraged to add your comments.
Interesting information! I’m looking forward to visiting this site again!
Thank you. More information is coming.
Looking good Marilyn. Are the pickled Lutefish as bad as everyone says?
Hal, lutefisk is not pickled — it is cod cured in lye. Some people actually like it. The smell of lutefisk cooking reminds me of happy times. We always had lutefisk on Christmas Eve.
Check out the post, “Lutefisk”. Everything you ever wanted to know about Lutefisk is there — and more.
